Which steroid is commonly used to manage CINV?

Dexamethasone is commonly used to manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) due to its effectiveness in enhancing the antiemetic effects of other medications used in CINV protocols. This corticosteroid works by acting on the central nervous system, particularly areas associated with nausea and vomiting. It can be administered during chemotherapy treatment, as well as preemptively, to reduce the likelihood of nausea and vomiting occurring.

In clinical practice, dexamethasone has been shown to significantly improve patient outcomes when used in combination with other antiemetics, such as serotonin antagonists. Its rapid onset of action and strong anti-inflammatory properties make it a preferred choice in managing CINV.
